Jaclyn Suffel will direct this southern tale. The show runs February 15-24, 2019, Friday and Saturdays at 7:00 PM plus Thursday, February 21 and Sundays at 2:30 PM.  We will have callbacks Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Auditions will be cold readings from the script. We are looking for adult and teen women. Rehearsals will start around January 3, 2019. Simply sign-up for a slot and show up at 2:00 PM.

The play opens with discussion of Shelby’s wedding day to her fiancé, Jackson, in the fictional northwestern Louisiana parish of Chinquapin at Truvy’s in-home beauty parlour where the women regularly gather. It covers events over the next three years with Shelby’s Type 1 diabetes and how the women interact at times with conflict but in the end resolved friends: Shelby’s decision to have a child despite the complication that could result from her condition, Clairee’s friendship with the curmudgeon OuiserAnnelle’s transformation from a shy, anxious newcomer in town to a good-time girl then repentant revival-tent Christian; and Truvy’s relationships with the men in her family. Although the main storyline involves Shelby, her mother M’Lynn, and Shelby’s medical battles, the underlying group-friendship among all six women is prominent throughout the drama.

Synopsis:

Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of biblical Jesus in the final days leading up to his crucifixion. A rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Time Rice, the musical has no spoken dialogue and is sometimes considered a modern rock-opera. Loosely based on the Gospels, Superstar focuses on the personal conflicts between Jesus, his disciples, the people of Israel, and the leadership of Rome. Special attention is played to the relationship between Judas Iscariot and Jesus, as well as Jesus’ relationship with Mary Magdalene. The musical is unique among biblical retellings in that if focuses on both Judas’ struggle making the decision to betray Jesus and Jesus’ human psychology, fear, and anger in understanding and accepting his role as both leader and martyr. The show is a product of its era, permeated with 1970’s rock, gospel, folk and funk themes, modern language and colloquialisms, and high-energy dance numbers.

Show dates: September 14-23, 2018, Fridays & Saturdays at 7, Sundays at 2:30.

We will also be doing school matinees on September 18 & 19 at 10:00am.

Rehearsals will start August 3, 2018. This show is rated G.
